estesbubba
On all the crosscut sleds I've built the kerf has always been on the right leaving more support on the left. I have no idea why I did them this way but probably just copying what others have done. My crosscut sled is big able to handle up to 25" wide boards which makes it bulky. When I get in my new shop I think I'm going to build a 2nd smaller one which I'll probably use 95% of the time. So do I just put the kerf on the right like I've always done? Since the extension table is to the right it seems like putting the kerf on the left makes more sense. Then I thought that a good reason to put kerf on right is so you don't have to remove the fence for longer boards. What do you guys think and do? Tpt life
I use the fence and a stop block to register repeated cuts. If I moved the sled or work with longer pieces, I would need to rig special stop blocks more often.
..Kev
Mine is a few inches to the right leaving a little more support on the left. I added T track to the back fence on it to put in stop blocks and hold down clamps as needed.
wtnhighlander
I copied Matthias Wandell's ' small crosscut sled' design. Uses one runner and square fences front and back, so I can flip it around for either a zero clearance kerf in the middle, or an overhanging cut with more support on the left. No good for panels wider than 18" or so, though.
Dan S
I just finished this one, it has 18" on the left side and 28" on the right. I set it up this way because I'm left handed and I seem to naturally want to stand to the right of the blade. I also have more support on the right side of the blade.
