Tom Cancelleri
I have about 100 BF of black walnut and about 60 BF of cherry currently on the floor in my garage stacked up. The boards are mostly 8/4 and 8-10 feet long and 6-24 inches wide. I don't have the wall space in my garage for a lumber rack and my ceilings are only 10 foot with some 8 foot high soffits for beams and ducts. I have a utility room in my basement that is 17 x 10, my sump pump, hot water heater, HVAC unit are all in there. I can stud the outer wall which is 17' long and put lumber racks up in there. If I'm going from my house which I keep at about 66 degrees and relative humidity of 30% in the winter to my garage which is about 60, with relative humidity of 20-25% in the winter. Will there be much wood movement if I move them or do I need that 3-5 day acclimation period in the garage for the wood?
wtnhighlander
In my limited experience with 8/4 stock, I'd say you will be fine. It seems where I live, movement issues are generally worse in the summer when RH hangs around the mid-90s.
