Thdewitt
Please help quick. Today I bought a powermatic bandsaw. The guy I bought it from has a Delta DJ20 37-350 8 inch jointer and a Dewalt 735 planer with rolling stand, out feed table and extra blades. Both of these are new in box. He wants 600 for planer and 1500 for jointer. No tax no shipping. $2100 final. Now. I can buy a new grizzly go490x with spiral head for and a go453 planer for $3000 new and delivered. Any opinions. I am new to woodworking and building a shop. My main concern is the delta jointer is a 3 blade 1 horsepower. The grizzly is spiral and 3 hp. My concern on planer is that Dewalt is 13 inch. The grizzly is 15. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
wtnhighlander
If you have the room and the power available, I'd say go Grizzly.
minorhero
don't underestimate how great a spiral head is. Get the grizzly if you have the power available.
Trip
==>I can buy a new grizzly go490x with spiral head for and a go453 planer for $3000 new and deliveredYou might want to ask Eric about the Grizzly option... ==>don't underestimate how great a spiral head isTrue helical heads can be very useful on planers... Spiral (sounds like helical, but isn't) much less so... Unfortunately, their utility is more of a marketing ploy when it comes to jointers... Brendon_t
Spiral head on the jointer isn't that important to me. Gotta ask yourself if it's important to you. Personally, I'd be going the delta/dewalt.
Eric.
No comment. Except to say I do agree with Trip about the helical being not nearly as useful on the jointer since you'll just clean the faces up on the planer anyway. Helical on the jointer for me is all about convenience, not performance. No more knives means no more sharpening and setting. That's the big advantage.
