thewoodwhisperer
I decided to play with some handle options for the chest of drawers today. Here's one what was "interesting" to make. Just a prototype right now and still considering my options.
Dave F
I like it.
Vic
Very asian, very nice! Of course, I WILL steal it at some point.
PaulMarcel
Definitely a nice pull. I'd steal that design in a heartbeat! Do the handles curve outward? I can't tell for certain in the pictures.
thewoodwhisperer
OH yes. They match the curve in the side rails actually.
thewoodwhisperer
you can probably see the curvature better here:
PaulMarcel
Perfect, much more visible. Makes me like it even more. So in the interest of generating ideas in our heads, can we eventually see a gallery of the other handle ideas? Even if they aren't all done yet. thewoodwhisperer
Yeah, Im thinking I might just do a blog post about it.
azmetro
That looks really nice. I like how it has a split design horizontally. Very nice!
kronewi
Very interesting design. Could go nice with an Asian themed room. Wife said it looks very Rustic so I guess it could go nicely in that setting as well.
Drirot
This really a nice desingn. I like the idea of showing small components, and techniques, that can be put together, or modified for personal projects. Maybe even a library of concepts, would be really interesting. Think of it as a repository of ideas and designs, almost like going to the store and looking for projects or hardware, a person could sort through a plethora of videos, and images for ideas. This might even be an interesting DVD with a lesson chapters for each one.
Jay_Kreger
Marc, Love the look. Do you think it will hold up to years of use and abuse?
RandyMarine
Those look like something I would like in my room...Got any ideas for a solid kids pull?
Jim Jones
you can probably see the curvature better here: Was it 10, 2, or 4?
dmoore32
It looks grat Marc if you do not use them on the dresser you must use the look on something in the future. Duane www.foreverfighting.com
woodcanuck
Really nice. Your little slide show in the guild meeting where you had a basic dresser with interesting pulls really called out how much of a difference these make. These have always been an afterthought for me...but no more...I have seen the light...err, drawer pulls! That pulls looks great. If you swapped the curve from concave to convex you'd go from asian inspired to a more contemporary style, just by changing which way the curve goes. Vic
That IS the sweet thing about design. A small tweak, attention to a particular detail, turns the drab or ordinary into art. Very nice, Marc! (not that there is anything drab or ordinary about your chest of drawers design), but you get the picture. adamm
what about a wine rack?
woodcanuck
what about a wine rack? Isn't a wine rack a little on the large side for a drawer pull? Maybe it's just me....or maybe I'm just being obtuse.
thewoodwhisperer
Isn't a wine rack a little on the large side for a drawer pull? Maybe it's just me....or maybe I'm just being obtuse. lol Well someone asked about the handle holding up to years of abuse. Good question. I really have no idea. So I guess we'll find out. I was originally going to mortise the posts into the drawer front. But I think I'll simply attach them with screws. This way if the strips come loose, I can always remove the entire thing and come up with another design. If they hold, then its all good. darrelsingleton
Since there aren't any curves in the more basic chest, would it be out of place to introduce the curves just for the pulls? It would be nice to see how you might change the pull for the straight legged version of the chest. Would you just remove both curves or do something more? thewoodwhisperer
The handles and pulls are truly the icing on the cake. And depending on what flavor of icing you like, you can change the whole personality of the cake. So you can certainly add these curved pulls and I don't think they'd look out of place. But you can also take it in a more contemporary direction and simply have some nice long beveled pulls like this: (picture from Tom Buhl) The skies the limit on this stuff.
