StrangeRANGER
Does anyone use the iPhone and Siri to to assist in their projects?
CessnaPilotBarry
I use WA, and to a lesser extent, Siri, but not so much for woodworking.

Popular Post PaulMarcel
"Siri, what is half of 5 7/16"?" "Switch to Metric, bro"
CessnaPilotBarry
Since you caught my interest, I asked Siri the following: "What is half of 7 15/32 inches?" "Divide 7 15/32 by two?" Divide 3 3/4 by three?" It didn't work out well... Got any good examples?
duckkisser
i just use the calculator or write out the problem on the nearest board. i figure if im not smart enough to figure out half of 7 1/2 is then i should not be working with very sharp blades.
CessnaPilotBarry
DK... I do the same... However, I'm open minded, Wolfram Alpha, where Siri gets her data, is exceptional for some types of research, and Siri is useful in certain situations, so I'm open minded. StrangeRANGER
I have had the same problem with Siri misinturpreting fractions. Instead of saying "22/32s", I say "22 over 32". I have been shifting to metric, but may of my tools are still imperial.
Mzdadoc
I have the iPhone 5 and found a great app. Sadly for me I'm a 47 yr old math dummy! They gave me a choice to stop taking math after 9th grade and without good advice I thought when will I ever use this? BIG MISTAKE!!!! Lol The app is ShopCalc and it's awesome! Fractions, board ft. the works.
weithman5
I am blessed with a super quick math brain for example a kid asked me what is 2X4 and i said a piece of wood 1.5 inches one one side and 3.5 inches on the other, duh.

Damn, I'm impressed - and you did not even need Wolfram Alpha.
