thewoodwhisperer
I wonder if that is actually going to differ at all from their normal project videos, or if they are really setting it up to build along with the guy?
Dan S
I'm betting just like their normal videos, which have really gone down hill over the last 9 months or so IMO. They keep getting shorter, and further apart, waiting 2 weeks for the next 2 minute episode is kind of lame. The last one I really enjoyed, was Garrett Hack's small tool cabinet build, and it was published mid 09 if memory serves. I wonder if that is actually going to differ at all from their normal project videos, or if they are really setting it up to build along with the guy? thewoodwhisperer
Well, making video is hard work Dan. It takes teams of people hours upon hours and buckets full of blood sweat and tears.... **snicker snicker**
ddean5
"My tree my leaves" I think Marc has really set the standard on build along videos. His build along videos are like attending a class online. He shows the good, the bad, as well as options, therefore letting the viewer use their imagination and skill level on their project. Then he also gives you show and tell techniques to build your skill set. The other thing I like about Marc and his videos is that he never says anything negative (bashing) about a competitor, magazine, or product, etc.. I worked for a top 100 company and was taught never to bash a competitor, let our product do the talking. I think he does the same thing. Looking forward to the next two guild sessions to better understand what it takes to do what he does on this powerful tool, the internet. Although I'm not able to view these live I can't wait until the next day to view the video. I pray for the best for Marc and his beautiful wife Nicole. PS. Thanks to all who also contribute to his work.

lemonjello
It's funny, I seem to remember a"heck no" from Marc about bench project a while back... Glad to see you finally doing it! I just built a bench earlier this year and I wish I had drank the roubo koolaid first. The Schwarz repeatedly talks about the front legs flush with the top and after working on my bench for 6 months, I really wish I had done so. Mine is sort of modeled after the "monster bench' plan, with Veritas twin screw face vise and Veritas quick release tail vise(awesome vise!). I will be looking at modifying legs in the near future.. Tom Crawford
I have a Veritas quick release vise also and agree with you that it is really great. Can you explain the advantage of having the legs flush top?

Is he planning to build another bench? Mike
Torch02
Can you explain the advantage of having the legs flush top? The big idea is that you can clamp things to the front edge of the bench, which allows you to work on long edges with proper support from the bench top to the floor. If the front legs are not flush with the apron, then you only have the support of the thickness of the benchtop, which could cause racking or difficulty clamping.
