RichardA
I found a new distillery in Tennessee today, and went for a tour! They make "legal" moonshine! At the end of the tour, there's a tasting! I've been a Jack Daniel fan since my fake ID was accepted 55 years ago! You can check them out online, as well as purchase online... I was extremely impressed, smooth, gentle, extremely tasteful and if you like iced tea, they have a 60 proof that will knock your socks off, it has an aftertaste of peaches. Check them out if you like good liquer! Short Mountain Distillery, don't forget to add the .com...... It's all made the way it was done for hundreds of years, right here in Tennessee! wdwerker
It's still a topic dear to lots of us ! I love the smells when you tour the Jack distillery , they open a lid on the charcoal mellowing vat and pump it a few times like a bellows. I will have to check Short Mountain out. Indy Cindy
My husband and I toured the Jameson distillery in Dublin and at the end they had a taste off comparing Jameson Irish Whiskey which is triple distilled, Scotch which is double distilled, and Jack Daniels which is single distilled. The Jack Daniels was our favorite. The Jamesons could pass for lighter fluid, however I must admit that mixing it with cranberry juice and a twist of lime it is quite yummy. Damn nice stuff Yep, sure have, and Gentleman Jack ain't no slouch either... I've had moonshine many, many times in my life, but this "legal" shine is fine as wine! If your coming this way Steve, holler at me we'll go check it out.... I'm pretty sure I could force myself to take the tour again! The place is 25 minutes from my house, darn, for that matter Jack's place is only 45 min away. Could you stand 2 tours in one day?

RichardA
Stand maybe not, crawl is a possibility. John Tasting, not allowed at Jack's place, [dry county] Tasting allowed at Short Mountain, Small taste, but once you appreciate it, buy and taste all night long..... A real nice smile at the end of bottle! At least I smiled! And slept very well, last night! So, I'm told!
sjeff70
I've tried JD neat and didn't care for it... mash is a bit harsh. I'm not against a 'blended' scotch (Dewar's is nice), but I always preferred a malt scotch. The intoxication is so mellow there's just no comparison. Doesn't matter anyway, since those days are long gone.
Byrdie
I was introduced to Single Barrel when I toured the Jack distillery. Really enjoy that each bottle is going to have a different taste (provided that it's from a different barrel). I had to tour the distillery twice on consecutive days because the first tour was on Sunday and the shop was closed. Went back on Monday so I could buy one of the "special" bottles there. And I love sniffing out the liars who've never been there when they tell me the tasting at the end was the best part. I've been told that more than once.

jHop
Didn't realize I was across the street from Jack's #2 distillery in Kentucky a few years back. Turned the wrong direction to head home on a Sunday, pulled into a gravel driveway barely visible between a wooded stretch, and followed the trail back until it was wide enough to turn around. Round a bend, and Thar She Be! Just as the last tour group had finished and the security guards were ushering everybody out. One day, I'll get back for a proper tour. And yes, this one is also in a dry district...
