Tom Cancelleri
I've been wanting a second ETS 150, was considering the 150/5 since I've got a 150/3 . Looking at that video I think I will hold off untill they sell those over here ! I spoke with the Festool rep at the woodworking show. He said it could be as long as 3 years if ever for the ETS EC to get here.
EdG
Hard to understand why Festool would wait 2-3 yrs to introduce brushless sanders here in the U.S. At that pace they will be years behind the competition.

It seems they blame it on UL testing and the rigmarole they must go through for it to be sold here.
bushwacked
Is there no option for importing them in? Maybe pay $20 in shipping?
Eric.
I still don't see the amazing advancements in technology in the EC line over the old ETS. So it won't come on if the hose isn't attached. Whoop-dee-do.
wdwerker
Screw UL, they should just get CSA approval, higher standards and less politics !
BuilderBill
It seems they blame it on UL testing and the rigmarole they must go through for it to be sold here. So they can sell it in the EU which has the same or more rigmorale to go through but it takes a couple of years more to get it approved here? Seems like a scheduling snafu to me, if they submit the tool for UL testing at the same time they do for the EU it should hit the market around the same time. Or maybe they just use the EU as a test market before they go for the real money, kind of like the first Carvex which fell on it's face in the EU and got announced but never hit the stores in NA? Enquiring minds want to know...

Cochese
I think it's all bull. Lots of NAINA items that have nothing to do with power. Just more of their games.
dwacker
I think the hose shut off has more to do with work place safety than anything else and the ability to expand into markets that could not otherwise be touched. The EU has always been ahead of the US in this aspect. In the US our wide belt sanders, air sanders, spray booths and many other machines have to have a method of shutting down the supply if exhaust systems are not operating. With the new FT sander it will be possible to connect the sander to a central system not just the tiny FT vacs and meet the requirements. EdG
Note that the hose shut off is configurable on the EU a Festool 150 EC. It can be configured to operate as a normal ETS 150, that is it will operate without a hose attached or you can configure it such that the hose must be attached.
