byegge
I built a pair of lamps out of walnut and cherry and now it's time to finish them. Was planning on using Danish oil for no other reason than I have some already. Would this be suitable for the interior of the lamp where a bulb will be. I plan on using led bulbs so the heat will be at a minimum, at least that's the plan. Won't let me upload pics.
wtnhighlander
Ok, you're gonna have to describe this lamp for me. I can't picture how ut works with the bulb INSIDE the wood! ? I think you are fine using danish oil. Once cured, it should be no more flammable than most other finishes.
byegge
Basically like a Japanese style lamp where light only comes out of 2in gap in the top. It's frame and panel construction. Picture a 13 tall by 7"sq box. The bulb will sit inside. Don't know how to resize the image on my phone
treeslayer
made this one out of cherry with stained glass, three coats of ARS and no problems, i use CFL bulbs to reduce heat and vent the top to let what heat there is to escape
wdwerker
The key thing to using a Danish oil finish is thin coats and let them cure completely before using . Drying time can be much longer in the winter. Inside a lamp distance from any heat source is important. Transformers would benefit from spacers underneath to allow airflow.
