NJ_Mike
Anyone have experience with these or this type of bit? http://www.eagleamerica.com/product/vp16-4041/pc_-_glue_joints or https://www.amazon.com/Yonico-15223-Matched-Tongue-Banding/dp/B00KZM2AII/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_sims?ie=UTF8 i'm about to start building a tv stand and want to cover the plywood edges. Are these just a hassle or they worth it? I have 0 experience with this type of bit. Opinions welcome. Thanks
Eric.
I think they're superfluous in most cases. You can just glue hardwood banding right on. If you need alignment help, use a few biscuits or Dominoes. Usually I'll just wing it without anything.
wtnhighlander
Have to agree with Eric. MAYBE the profile would help by adding glue surface if you were banding around particleboard, but ..... don't do that.
Ryan Grondin
My neighbor uses those and swears by them, but I've never used them and my edges look and last just the same. As long as you align them well and glue them properly they aren't going anywhere. It's an extra step, and the benefit is debatable..
wdwerker
I might get some push back on this but when glue and blue tape won't keep edgebanding aligned I use a 23 gauge headless micro pin at a slight angle. The hole is so small they fill with sanding dust. And they can be had quite cheaply. The one HF sells is around $25 and shoots up to a 1" pin. One survived 2 years of abuse and fired over 13500 pins. It's just a backup now but it still works. I have one by Grex that shoots up to 2" pins but that one cost 12 times more ! 1/4" to 3/8" thick edgeband works fine. I wouldn't make it much thinner than 1/8" but thinner is easier to cut flush and sand smooth.

Tom King
Whiteside makes those for Eagle America. I expect the reason they are on sale is because hardly anyone uses them. I just leave the banding a little proud, and finish with a super sharp block plane. I know there are some here that are 40 years old, and haven't fallen off yet.
