thatCharlieDude
I know it's been mentioned before but I wanted to recommend Richard Raffan's "Turning Wood" book. My FiL gave me a copy of the book and it's been a very educational read. I have one of the earlier additionals and while it's not a pretty book, the pictures are black and white and there's lots of two color drawings, it's packed full of good info. If you're just starting out like me you may want to pick up a copy it. There's even a Kindle version on Amazon and the price of the hardcopy and ebook are very reasonable. Tom King
I've had really good luck finding books on ebay lately.
Marmotjr
Keith Rowley's "Woodturning, A foundation Course" Is very good IMO, comes with a DVD that follows the book fairly well too. Also reasonably priced on amazon. I'll have to check out that book Charlie.

Mark J
I have another of Raffan's books: Taunton's Complete Illustrated Guide. Maybe it's Taunton's editing, but I didn't find it that readable compared to say Tage Frid. But I think I'll give another go. I will definitely check out the other recommendations, too. Marmotjr
You would think that a group of professional editors and writers would have a very readable book.
Bankstick
My book is by Phil Irons- The Wood Turning Bible. Easy to read, good photos, and lays flat so you don't have a book spine to give out in the future.
thatCharlieDude
I was somehow able to access this project book by Alan Lacer through Google Books. There are a bunch of fun projects in it. https://books.google.com/books?id=MJmYCAAAQBAJ&pg=PA137&lpg=PA137&dq=piston+fit+woodturning&source=bl&ots=x0znh0K3xi&sig=DwHkHj5KXLT9CRgZ9SUtIgsxusg&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjc5Yu50t_VAhWKrVQKHZ0zAFkQ6AEIKDAA#v=onepage&q=piston fit woodturning&f=false
