Bmac
Have any of you guys had paulownia milled? I've got some trees on my property I plane to harvest this fall. I've heard it's easy to dry, dries fast, decay/pest resistance, and stable. Wasn't sure if there were any issues I need to look out for when processing the wood. I plan to make a surfboard and a paddleboard out of the lumber, supposed to be the perfect wood for these projects.
wdwerker
It's soft so sharp tools and carefully fitted joints that will close with minimum clamp pressure. Excessive clamp pressure will crush the fibers. No ideas about drying it.
Spanky
Bmac, I have milled paulownia logs they cut good. Should be good for a paddleboard.
Spanky
Bmac, back in the late 70’s and 80’s Paulowia logs was bring $3.00 - $5.00 per ft in the log. You can’t give one away now.
Bmac
Yes, I know they were very expensive at one time. I remember hearing a news cast say men went into a park in Philadelphia with silencers on their chainsaws and stole a bunch of Royal Princess Trees, aka paulownia. Do you ever get a chance to mill it or do you not bother with it now?

mat60
I have sold some furniture made from paulownia. Its light in weight and doesn't look bad with a dark stain.
