rainjer
I decided to build a pre-separator for my Festool CT15 to see if I can make the bag and filter last longer. I got the idea from a picture I found searching on google. This orange part is a Duststopper from Home Depot. It attaches to a bucket I cut down that will be recessed and attached to the box lid. The box for the separator is 6.8 gallons. I did not want to permanently attach it so I made adapter flange that sits over the vacuum and the separator drops into. Next is lots of sanding to get it ready for painting.
wtnhighlander
Let us know how that performs, I've been wondering about those separator lids. I suspect it will work best if you don't allow the box to fill above half way.
pkinneb
I bought the one from Oneida and it works great in fact I just emptied the bag a week or two ago, the first time in 2 years LOL. They are pretty proud of it though @$300 so a home grown solution may be the way to go.
rainjer
Made some progress today. The box is Almost done I just need to attach and seal the buck portion to the box lid. Mark J
Have you tried the separator out yet?
rainjer
I tried with just the bucket and it worked really well. I have not tried it with the box yet. I am waiting on a hose fitting to hook it up. The 2-1/2" hose that come with it does not fit thru the opening of the vacuum so I need to make a new hose 1.5" hose with 2-1/4" O.D. fittings on both ends.
rainjer
More progress today. I put some cork on the adapter piece on both sides the padded. And then today I also built a handle that is also a hose rack. I just need to take the mounting pieces back off and paint them and besides the hose I am done.
rainjer
I am calling this project completed. I have on hose fitting I am waiting on that will allow me to connect the hose to the elbow that goes on top to the separator. Today I got the attach points for the handle painted and, handle reattached and put everything back together. Now I can move on to a real project...

Chestnut
Awesome! How do you like the CT 15 E? It looks like a great extractor for the price. Lacks a couple minor bells and whistles but retains the important ones.

I need to get used to having a hose attached to everything while I work...
Chestnut
Getting used to the hose took some time but you will get used to it. collecting at the tool with a vac cuts down on a lot of nuisance dust though. Sander dust was always the worst was so fine and got everywhere.
Popular Post rainjer
I wanted to post a follow-up on my separator. I used it with my cheap RO sander when I was making my Christmas projects and it worked great. It captured a lot of very fine, flour like, dust. Very little dust passed thru to the bag.
