Popular Post TomInNC
I was cutting up some wood for my smoker with my DeWalt 780 this week, and in the middle of the cut, something snapped off of the saw and flew into my left hand. No injuries to speak of, but it was pretty terrifying at the moment. After regaining my wit, I looked at the saw to see what happened, and the projectile that struck my hand was a part of the saw's rear guard assembly. I assumed that my issue was somehow due to operator error and went online to buy a replacement part. At that point, Google notified me that there was a recent recall on DeWalt miter saws because this safety guard was prone to shattering. The 780 is apparently the one tool that I forgot to register, so I never received a notification about the recall (see link below for details). Anyway, just wanted to let everyone here know in case they also were unaware of the issue. This could have been much, much worse if my knee-jerk reaction to getting shot in the hand would have pushed me towards, as opposed to away from, the saw. https://www.dewalt.com/miter-saw-recall 1
JohnG
There was another post on this a month or two ago when the recall was announced, but it’s always good to spread awareness, and let people know that the stated issue is actually happening. JohnG
When the spring breaks, does it get sent toward the user’s face at high speeds by the blade?
BillyJack
It just snaps and the weight of the saw comes down.
