Popular Post Tom King
This was a complete rainbow all the way around the hazed over Sun, but by the time I figured out I had to get the Sun out of view of the phone camera lens, it had started to fade. I hadn't seen one in so long that I didn't remember what they were called, so I texted one of my Scientist friends. I wish I had been able to take a better picture.
Coop
I’ve never seen or heard of such. That’s cool. Like admiring a sunset, seconds count.
Popular Post Ronn W
I think that type of rainbow is caused by light reflecting off of ice crystals in the atmosphere. They are relatively rare and conditions have to just right. Pilots have a name for a circulare rainbow when seen from above the clouds. With the sun above them and the clouds below the circular rainbow will appear on the clouds with the shadow of your airplane in the middle. It is very cool and it's called "The Glory". I have only seen one.
Tpt life
I have seen this in the moonlight at Mosi A Tunya, as the spray from the falls is colorful during full moon rise. It also appears less brilliantly in the atmospheric frost during winter here…when conditions are right.
