danbell78
I just bought myself a new Samsung Frame TV for the living room, it's the fancy one that can look like a piece or art work when not in use. One of the cool features is that you can customize the look by buying new frames for it. Obviously being a woodworker my first thought was I bet I can make my own frame for it. So has anyone attempted this or is there a good reason you can't? I should get the TV delivered today, but not sure when the unboxing and mounting will be. (will be a temp mount until I redo the whole room and fireplace surround)
legenddc
I've wanted one of those since I saw one at a friend's house. Our TV still works so not happening until it stops. Does it come with a frame you could use for dimensions to make a new one? I wonder if you could put veneer over one to change the look. Could be cool if you made some frames around it to match so people would have no idea it was a TV.
pkinneb
I did in my basement for a different reason but same concept you just have to insure you have sufficient air flow I added a USB fan to pull air out but mine was built into the wall if yours would be on the outside you could add venting without the need for an additional fan. wtnhighlander
@pkinneb voiced the concern I had, air flow. Otherwise, it should be very much like any otger shadow-box frame. FYI, most modern 'smart' TVs can be coerced into acting as a digital photo frame, but may not support the nifty email or wirless file transfer features that specialized units provide. Popular Post danbell78
I went ahead and built a pretty simple frame, ash wood, mitered corners with a domino for strength. I went about 7/9" thick with a 1/2x5/8 rabbet that sits over the frame of the TV. It fit pretty good but added magnets to make sure it stays in place. I will get a picture attached here at some point. I ended up rattle can painting it antique brass per request of the boss. I went light so you can still see the wood grain show through. quick, easy and makes it look a bit more like a real framed art then a TV. Agree that most TVs could display a static picture, but this does have a few features that really help improve upon that. The screen itself is matte finish, looks more like a canvas then normal TV. You can also add a mat to the pictures, and that really helps it to pop. And the one that I wish more TVs offered is the One Connect cord/system that comes with it. There is literally one cord that connects up to the TV, runs from a box that everything else plugs into. That includes power, sound picture etc. Plus the remote is radio frequency so this box can be tucked into a cabinet completely out of sight! legenddc
Can't wait to see the picture! I would be lying if I said I don't get a little excited every time our TV acts up in anticipation of getting one of these. Usually the price takes that excitement away.
danbell78
next phase of the project is to make a new mantel, install rock on the whole front face of the fireplace and new floating shelves on the sides, TV was just a way to get me started on the project!
wtnhighlander
That looks amazingly like a fine art print! Excellent way to disguise the tv.

Popular Post CTJinVA
I have a 65" Frame TV and purchased a frame from the artdeco place before I was into woodworking. It's a great frame but obscenely expensive. There is absolutely no reason why one couldn't build their own. @danbell78I had the same picture on my TV today! (following photo is of the frame that I purchased from the manufacturer's website).
