duckkisser
through no fault of my own(punk kid) my wood turned pen had the ink break and now the pen has got a few stains on it from the ink cartridge. what is the best way to clean it up and shine it up again? i took off most of the ink, should i use some 320 sandpaper and sand it down some or is there a better way? would like to get back to brand new condition so i can basicly rub it in this individuals face since he broke it in spite of me. AceHoleInOne
Ink is a dye. Dye can typically be lightened by sanding or bleaching. Bleaching can also lighten the color of the wood. For spot fixes, I have had very good luck using those Clorox bleach pens on table tops. How is your pen finished? -Ace-

jHop
If you have a set of mandrels, I'd mount it on that, and turn it at your slowest speed, using sandpaper to remove the finish. And maybe the Micro Mesh sanding pads, rather than sandpaper. Light passes, so you don't reshape the pen. Whenever I do any sanding on the lathe, I work my way up from 80 grit, but since you're just removing finish, I wouldn't start there. And definitely wear your respirator. duckkisser
umm no mandrells, no lathe, no micro mesh sanding pads was just going to do 400 grit and some elbo grease around the effected areas. then move up to like 600 grit and then re seal it all. Then use dremel polisher.
