AstroDave
Doing some organizing of all the crap I have in storage in order to make room for more crap and I came across a cache of older tools. Most of them were my father in law's. I particularly like the older screwdrivers. Definitely intending to clean all of these up and use them. So awesome to find these and use them...even my wife was excited when she saw them.

AstroDave
Guess I need to learn how to sharpen and use them
RichardA
Guess I need to learn how to sharpen and use them Why would you not use them? Free tools that do the job, are free tools that do the job! Can't beat that with a curly maple switch!
TerryMcK
Cabinet scraper looks interesting. You can never have enough sliding bevels either.
Eric.
Yeah I can't say I've ever seen an 81 before. The smoother looks in decent shape, too. I'd probably buy a better blade for it.

Tom Cancelleri
Awesome stuff Dave. The #81 is interesting for sure. This is the smoother
AstroDave
Thanks Tom... while I was here I found the reference to the Blood and Gore site...very cool read. So is the 81 a cabinet scraper?
Tom Cancelleri
Yes the 81 is a cabinet scraper.
AstroDave
What is the best way to clean these tools? I've used EvapoRust on some but wasn't sure if there are better alternatives.
Tom Cancelleri
If you're gonna clean them, take them apart and soak in evaporust for a while, then hit them lightly with some scotchbrite, then rinse off with water. Dry them and wipe down with WD40. That's how I restore older tools. Make sure you take off any wood parts and don't soak them in evaporust. croessler
I was wondering if it was a #3 or maybe a #2.......

RichardA
I couldn't tell... no markings that I could fine... I know next to nothing about hand planes... Measure the sole, the width of the blade, and you'll have an idea what that plane is!
