JosephThomas
I thought the grain on the face looked red oak-ish, but I thought it was way too 'chocolately' in color for that....at least I've never seen any red oak anywhere near this dark. Dknapp34
End grain doesn't look right for red oak to me. Looks more like mahogany.
RichardA
It's not red oak!
Eric.
Not red oak for sure. Looks like a fauxhogany species. I say sapele.
wnaziri
End grain doesn't look right for red oak to me. Looks more like mahogany.I am no expert on wood species but I do happen to have a bunch of African mahogany sitting around. The last image looks very similar to my flat sawn African mahogany. wdwerker
Some sort of African Mahogany.
phinds
Face grain is EXACTLY like tzalam but I'd have to see to closer look at the end grain. At first glance the end grain says it is one of the more grainy species sold as African mahogany and I've seen AM with similar face grain. Problem is that the marginal parenchyma lines appear to be uniformly solid, which is not normal for AM but on the other hand tzalam doesn't have them at all.DOH !Never mind. It's jatoba. End grain doesn't look right for red oak to me. Boy, howdy, THAT'S the understatement of the year
