Rex Edgar
What are the recommendations for finishing a salt box? Inside is especially critical (salt is corrosive). One in the photo is store bought.

Mom and dad always talked about the days when they had to salt the meat to preserve it. I doubt it works on wood!
Eric.
Coop, you're showing your age. The only people I ever knew who had to salt their pork were the Joads.
Tpt life
Salt is like sandpaper. It will grind away at the inside of the shaker.

Coop
I remember when we were kids, we were poor, but didn't know it then. Two or three times a week, mom would cook collard greens, corn bread and pinto beans. She'd also fry up a piece of salt pork, and she would tie the pork on a string and hang it in the doorway from the living room to the dining room. I have three brothers and each of us would take it in our mouth as we passed thru to the dr and release it for the next brother to taste. Then mom would take it down and cut it in half for her and dad to eat with their meals. We were able to say we had meat with every meal!
