Popular Post gee-dub
Those of us short on space need certain things to be available when we need them but, stored out of the way when we don't. This is one solution I came up with for those times when you need a bit of extra space to assemble things on. The idea was to have something that would work at a couple of different heights and then collapse into itself for storage. I landed on the idea of "legs" that could slide together in a tall configuration and a short configuration. The leg pieces are all identical in size and configuration. I used stopped dados done at the tablesaw for the slots. I end up with this. It can hold quite a bit of weight and still remain stable although I did use door shims to compensate for my uneven floor. Here I am building my tall boy dresser design that a few folks liked. I can't quit my day job but, one of the trade rags gave me a little money for the idea. When collapsed it will tuck between something and the wall or lay up over the rafters without you having to be the Incredible Hulk to get it up and down. Maybe this will help someone out who is struggling with their space.

Chet
Nice idea. So it is only 2 1/4 inches thick stored? Is that correct.

It depends on how you make the turn buttons. Mine are made from 1/4" ply so its a bit under (due to plywood's nominal dimensions) 2-1/2" total thickness. I thought about getting clever and recessing the turn buttons into the aprons but, for where I store it the 1/4" savings wasn't worth the effort. If you have a specific spot for it to fit, you can modify the dimensions to meet your needs.
