gardnesd
anyone have any ideas on how to move this trunk which i've estimated to weigh 1000-1100 lbs over a fence. dragging is not looking good due to tearing up his lawn.. i did buy a nice peavey from nortool this morning. yard is part aluminum decorative fence and part wooden fence. Also, any ideas on lifting this thing into a trailer would be nice.
millssnell
Where are you located? Based on the Tiger Paw, I am guessing Upstate Sc?
Beechwood Chip
rent a crane If you can't rent a crane, use the techniques demonstrated in Fulcrums and pivots.
Dave H
If you have a peevee this is simple leverage cut a bevel on two 2x's what ever you have on hand it could be 2x4's now set them close to the log with thw peevee roll the log up the beveled boards when you've rolled them close to the end of the boards set two more boards next to first two 2x's keep rolling once the first two boards are free leap frog them around to free up the new set of boards. Now if you want to make a turn put a wedge on the one side of the log you don't want to spin and you can steer it in the direction you want to go.
Chris H
Who/How are you planning to mill? Anyone with a milling operation, likely has access to a skidster with the proper attachments. It may be worth the fee to contract them to come get the log, or if they have a mobile mill, just mill it on sight, and then just clean up the neighbors yard afterwards. If you are going to try to manage the log without rented equip, higtron's method is the tried and true approach. Be careful if you are traversing slopes up or down though. It can get out of control in a real hurry.
duckkisser
ok i guess i have to reinvent the wheel here.......its round roll it across the ground around the fence.................i would just ask a miller to come to you house and chop up your tree for you. TRBaker
If rolling the log sideways is out of the question, due to clearances between the house and other obstacles, cut three foot lengths of 4" PVC pipe and roll it length-wise down the row of pipes. Leap frog the pipes the same way you would the 2x's that Hig suggested.
Dlhunter
Your neighbor is giving it to you so he doesn't have to pay for removal? It looks good but what are you going to do with it once you get it?
Boatworks Today
just mill it on sight, and then just clean up the neighbors yard afterwards. That was my first thought . No broken backs plus you get a show! I really like watching the mills run; kinda like Christmas everytime you pull a slab off
