Popular Post Chuck Melton
I've been slacking on getting my shop actually organized so my tools have been scattered between my miter saw station, bench, table saw, and any other horizontal surface they can find. It's been a major impediment to me getting anything done, so I finally got around to putting a cabinet together. It's the first cabinet I've ever put together and it's wrought with imperfections, but I was more concerned with getting my tools a convenient place to live. It's a lazy version of Marc's wall hanging tool cabinet (I didn't dado the back, which in retrospect was a pretty big mistake. I think I was just afraid of making stopped dados as I am really not very good with a router. I rabbeted the sides, cut a dado for the center partition and then glued and screwed it together. I used a bunch of leftover paint samples to pain the thing, but in the end I don't really mind the color scheme. I used decent baltic birch, but for my level of craftsmanship I probably should have just grabbed some hardwood ply from Lowes. eventually I'd like to put drawers in the bottom, but for now getting the great tool diaspora tamed was more important. I learned quite a bit and at the end of the day I have something useful.

Byrdie
Nice job, but now let's get over the fear of stopped dados on the router. Lay out your cuts carefully with a pencil and ruler, carefully set the depth on your router and then just go slow. A dado ends up being a hidden joint so if there's any burning no one is going to see it. If you have a guide/fence attachment for your router you'll find that's a great aid. I give my personal guarantee that after just a few cuts you'll be wondering what you were so afraid of.
TerryMcK
Nice work Chuck. I like how you have hung your various planes.
woodieboy
That's a great addition to your shop! That's a fine build, tools should be now easy to locate.
Chuck Melton
Nice work Chuck. I like how you have hung your various planes. I sort of failed to account for my number 7 (you can see it perched atop the cabinet). I payed out the shelves and dividers by eye, mostly because I was being lazy. All in all, it's not that big a deal. I'd feel worse about it if my number 7 wasn't a Groz.
Llama
It happens Chuck! I did the same thing, twice! Lol oh well, I'll have to build another case for my planes
