wouldwurker
I am, but I'm glad you mentioned it, since it needs to be done before assembly. Thanks.
wouldwurker
I don't mind exposed end grain when it matches up like this

wouldwurker
I'll take half credit. I did spend a lot of time matching up the best grain matches for the 16 pieces I had.

wouldwurker
Lots of dados cut..still learning how to make the most consistent and efficient use of batch work - definitely a skill in and of itself. Cut the bottom with a rabbeting bit - 3/16 Dry fitting. Need to trim up the floating bottom a bit to leave a tiny gap...just a hair to tight and the box isn't totally closing up . ... And of course my wife sees the sticker on the Baltic birch and says, 'where'd you buy that box, it looks just like the one you're building' Ugh.
..Kev
Did you do the dados in the table saw or on the router? Just my opinion but, this is the prime place for a dado stack in the table saw. That's a lot of parts to batch out.
wouldwurker
Stack, baby
Vyrolan
Boxes look good...nice and simple. Apparently making reindeer is a good way to learn efficiency or so I've read. =p Every time I'm triple-checking square on my clamped edge guide before starting to route a dado I mutter to myself about how easy it would be with a dado stack.
wouldwurker
Trimmed up that bottom. A perfect fit was too tight - left a 1/32" gap all around.

wouldwurker
Had to pick up the Baltic birch at Michaels, since time was a factor and its 3 seconds from my house. Had to settle for a few 1/4 boards - as such some will float in the dado without a rabbet. All in all...this might be way easier
wouldwurker
Tested all dry fits. Good to go. Hitting the hay. I need some elves. I still have to start the WW toy chest for my boy, as well as a tugboat, 6 cutting boards, a few small Boxes, 4 picture frames and 3 more grasshoppers. Tpt life
So I take up my hair under my hat, and I come in to ask you why? You are cooking now! Style points for effective use of blue tape.
wouldwurker
Sanding the insides before glue up. Did I mention I love the sanding station? Check out that cyclone dust bin! And my shop vac bin I've never had this much suction from my ROS. I can actually lift up the board with the sander.
wouldwurker
First glue up. Kinda wish I had 8 band clamps right now... Thanks to whoever it was that recommended the GlueBot by the way. Note how my bench magically transforms into a glue up table with a sheet of laminated hardboard.
wouldwurker
Made a boo boo and cut one of the dados to high. Lesson learned: make sure your test piece is the SAME SIZE as the project piece! . Anyway. Love that Grippppper, when you can safely cut this piece
wouldwurker
And to make the best use of time during glue ups...more grasshoppers. (Original in the back)
