wouldwurker
I usually light sand with 600 between coats just to take off any nibs that might be there. 600?! Your shop is too clean! I need 320 between coats just to remove the mice that glued themselves to my work.
Eric.
I use 320 after my first coat and 600 on subsequent coats.
..Kev
So are you going to take a shot at a live edge version ? If that was for me, I'm seriously considering it..
wdwerker
I was thinking Mazdadoc, but go for it !
Mzdadoc
Not sure I could pull off the live edge yet. Can't picture in my mind what it would go together like.

wdwerker
That one with the dark corner looks like it has some nice curl to it ! What's the darker wood version made of? They all will make excellent presents!
Mzdadoc
wdwerker It's a maple I believe and the pics don't show the curl in it but really looks like flames to me. This one is for my daughter and I'm really happy with it.
Tom Cancelleri
The darker one looks like spalted maple. Looks really good. What kind of candles do you use, votives or tea lights?
Eric.
Maple heartwood probably from near a crotch or a branch junction with a little curl and one little streak of spalting. Cool piece of wood. A lot going on.
Mzdadoc
Ok ask a candle question and I got nothing.... LOL They are 2" glass candles. They look like shot glasses with wax inside and are 2" wide at the top. The forstner bit I used is 2". Eric there is definitely a lot going on which fits perfect for my daughter.... LOL

I bought a 1 7/8" forstner bit for my holder because 2" was too big and 1 3/4 was too small. Bastard sized candles!
Dnorris1369
This is probaly a dumb question but couldn't you just make a shallow rip cut along the top to give appearance of being two pieces and just glue the legs on without the dado in the slab?? Dnorris1369
Oops glad I have an extra piece of wood. The legs won't be flush once the bevel is cut Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Mzdadoc
As Kev said above yes you can but I'd still dado the legs. The dado's were cut before the bevel's were put on.
