plagued by new forum issues

Man, I have been geting pretty frustrated lately.  I dont want to complain, as I love this community and realize that it doesnt cost me a nickle.  I also appreciate Marc's hosting of this board as well as his hard work to keep it running and monitored.

Here are the issues I am having:

-I can't add any photos to my posts on my laptop (running IE 9).

-Sometimes when I click a link (like add reply, or quote, or add photo) the forum sends me to the top of the thread (first post ot top of page).  This is particulary infuriating

-My smartphone (android) won't allow me to quote a user to reply.  It redirects me, like in the above point.

The screen will not resize for my laptop.  I need to scroll sideways to get the "new content" button.

Im going to have a drink now, to help with this frustration!

Your first problem is you're using IE and your second problem is you're using IE 9!

This is a modern website so get a modern web browser like Chrome or Firefox.

i am provided the laptop by my work, and I am not permitted by the software to update the browser, otherwise I would have a more up to date version.  The default is always IE, and I can't modify that selection due to installed restrictions.

have you tried another browser? Google or Firefox?

in IE, that sounds more like a issue with your browser than the actual forum. Have you tried compatibility view?

ill see if I can give Firefox a run.  It will most likely be an older version thatbis supported by my employer.

Okay, I found a version of Firefox located on my machine.  Can't locate the version, but its probably not the newest.  Most of the issues seem to be resolved though, so thanks!  I probably should have realized on my own that I had an older browser before I posted - d'oh!

Being a software architect, it's nice to see web technologies are finally moving forward. For years the web was held back because of IE's popularity and its crappy feature support so developers had to code to the lowest common denominator. Firefox started the downward trend for IE and now Chrome is killing everyone. Mobile devices gained popularity and had browsers with all the cool HTML5/CSS3 features. Even the latest IE (and Edge) browsers are catching up with the functionality and now many websites are taking a mobile-first approach, using responsive technologies to have a single code-base work across all devices.

So now developers can finally not care if you're using an old browser and have problems. The web is moving forward and all it takes is a simple browser upgrade to enjoy it. For people that don't want to upgrade, or companies that won't allow it, the web is going to suck more and more as sites continue to implement features these old browsers don't support.

IE9 accounts for 1% of internet traffic. Not trying to rant but just give a developer's view of why this forum has problems with IE9.

On balance I think it is a push between this version and the new one.   The drag and drop picture functionality is a major major improvement (but copy/paste would be better).

The quote function on a mobile device is very cludgy and the filtering for new content is unecessarily complex and hangs up quite a bit.   If I hit the star and try to change the filters too quickly i get the "please wait 1/2/4 seconds" message.   I like how the old version had the most common filters preloaded so you could just see the content you want in a single click.

Other than those two complaints I do like it.    I like how it stores uncompleted replies, so if you start to type a reply, navigate away, and come back your half written reply is still there.  It can be annoying when you don't want to use that reply (especially if you used a quote, those stick around like STDs, an embedded quote in a reply can be cumbersome to delete) but overall I do think it is useful.
