Popular Post wdwerker
I came across some pictures of single floating shelves for another project. The client wanted the shelves on a brick veneer wall. So we installed the mounting strips before the wall was covered with the thin bricks. The wall was quite wavy so we shimmed the strips so they stayed straight. If your wall is not flat leave extra depth in the recess for the mounting strip then scribe & cut the unfinished shelves and number them so they get installed in the right order. Below you can see a mount strip that they bricked around and a shelf facing backwards so you can see the recess. We dyed the mount strip black just in case there was a gap and it showed. A job like this does require pre planning and coordination with the other trades. Outlets had to be relocated and left sticking out to accommodate the brick. Then the brick went in before we installed the shelves and desk. Here is a shot of the whole project. Black dye on red oak with a satin clear top coat is on the shelves and base cabinets. 12' red laminate top with the desk area bowed out was no fun to get into an upstairs bedroom that was being used as an office.

wouldwurker
Awesome work as always Steve. Gave me flashbacks of my hell build on that giant painted 'Tetris piece table. Spot on about Every little flaw potentially being telegraphed. Yours of course though...the product of perfection! Also I'm still terrified of your mitreing guillotine.
