Jordan Gatenby
Hello, I put my last board on the front slab, dovetailed to the end cap and I noticed (after the fact) that the board bowed on me leaving the front left section (other end from the end cap) with a significant curve (see photo). As I see it I have two options: 1. Leave it and flatten the rest of bench to the lowest point. 2. route away that part of the front board creating a flat surface and gluing a patch, bringing it up to the level of the rest of the bench. Thoughts/other ideas? -Jordan
Brendon_t
How much is the lowest point and how thick is your top right now?
Jordan Gatenby
If I brought the top down to the lowest point the total top thickness will be about 3.75 inches.
Brendon_t
Assuming you are using BC gear, I'd go with that one. You are going to flatten it out anyways.
Jordan Gatenby
Sounds good. What is BC Gear? LOL.

Ryan Grondin
I would try to flatten the rest down to your low point before routing down and adding a piece. Like Brendon said, you are going to flatten it anyway, whats another... whatever measurment it is to your low point. Looks good so far, good job and enjoy! Jordan Gatenby
Thanks everyone. Yes, all Bench Crafted hardware.
Jordan Gatenby
One more question.. After re-looking, I will have to take about an 8th off the top of the bench to match the low point. This includes an 8th off the the bench dog holes. Will the dogs be strong enough with an 8th of their "heads" chopped off? I assume I will have to shorten their heads because they will have to sit in a hole an 8th shallower then expected. Any issues with this?
Brendon_t
Yes, the strength in the dogs is in the wedge action front to back. I wouldn't worry about an 8th at all
pkinneb
Yeah an 1/8" will not affect anything accept the symmetry of your dove tails assuming they were centered to begin with. No issues at all with the dogs
Jordan Gatenby
Thanks, everyone. I think I can deal with asymmetrical dovetails.
