Popular Post wdwerker
Work Pants Follow 0 I recently got a pair of Ultimate Flex Fire Hose Work pants from Duluth Trading. There are several different versions. The ones I got have built in pockets for knee pads. Big pockets on the thighs w Velcro flaps. I had a full day that was bound to have me crawling around measuring a jobsite for a 15 ft wall with bookcases either side of a fireplace. 10 ft tall, floor to ceiling. Those knee pads are incredible. So easy to move around, no discomfort at all. And walking around , climbing ladders, even driving I could barely tell the pads were there. All the pockets are generous. I carry so much stuff in my pockets that I add button suspenders to all my work pants. The regular Fire Hose Canvas pants are thicker & heavier than the Flex version. Better for framing & heavy construction. Over the years I've gotten quite a bit of Duluth gear. All their pants have a gusset in the crotch for comfort and complete freedom of motion. Shirts have underarm gussets and a pleat in the back for similar reasons. Tee shirts have 3" longer tails so they stay tucked in. They have frequent promotions ,discounts, free shipping etc that help with the prices, but they are serious about the guarantee . Anyways what are some of your favorite finds? 3
Chet
I really like Carhartt's fire hose pants. I don't carry a lot of stuff in my pockets, I am a shop apron guy but I really like the way they fit and they have a pocket on the back thigh area that is for the old folding rules but it is a great spot for your cell phone. wtnhighlander
Dickie's has a 5-pocket blue jean with that back-of-thigh pocket for rules, phones, etc. It is kind of handy, but its an insert pocket, not a patch. It feels weird to have that rubbing the back of one thigh. I find the Dickie's work jeans to have a much looser waist fit than other brands with the same nominal size. A comfortable option for those among that are firmly "on the level". Bubble in the middle, that is.
Chet
The thigh pocket on the Carhartts is a patch. I buy Carhartts for all the fit reasons you mention Ross. Even in my youth I was never comfortable with the way "Levi's" fit.
pkinneb
I started wear Carhartts in the shop about a year ago Like Chet I really don't carry anything in the pockets other than my 12' tape in my back pocket, I use an apron for the other stuff. I actually like Levi's but they just don't hold up like they used to I started going through them pretty quick. I also had a few incidents where I grabbed Levi's to go out only to realize they had been used in the shop and were either torn or had glue on them LOL.
Llama
Pants? You guys are crazy! I went into business for myself so I could stop wearing pants! I wear shorts and sandals in the shop year round. I might put on a sweater if it gets nipply.

Chet
I probably wear shorts ten and a half months of the year but even in Northern California I get a week here and there when the temp turns me into a sissy.
Pondhockey
Haven't figured out this club stuff, yet, but I'm interested. I agree with pk on Carhartts and Levi's. I have a designated pair of Carhartts that I can spill stuff on or leave in the shop (I know, TMI, sorry.) Also agree on aprons and would love a shirt for the shop that ended halfway down the fore-arm (I keep my shop at 52 in the winter; not quite sandal temp.) I find that the apron holds tools/pencils..., keeps me warmer, and deflects chips. My Burnt Ranch based son get's a kick out of folks (like my daughter actually) who live in the Bay Area and think that they are in Northern California ;-)
