amateur eric
I’m working on finishing a pair of bookcases I built for my wife. Using rattle can poly to seal it in. I have sprayed 2 moderate coats on the cases and shelves. Just sanded the first case down with a fine sanding sponge. Does a third and final coat need to be applied for the finish o be done correctly? Or will two coats be fine? I ask because overspray is an issue with my current set up (in the laundry room with a shop vac and a window as my only source of venting). So I’m almost positive that if I spray another coat, it’s going to be rough again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

drzaius
Lee Valley has Arm-R-Seal. I too would suggest that. super easy to apply & great results.
wdwerker
It also goes a lot further than rattle cans do. Remember to hang your varnish rag outside & never ball up a wet varnish rag to dry. Slight chance of spontaneous combustion. Heat is generated by curing varnish.
SirNot
I've found Arm-r-Seal at my local Benjamin Moore store as well.
Jfitz
I suggest you look into a wipe-on varnish finish rather than spray. I am betting you'll be pleased. Many people prefer Arm-r-Seal, but I think Minwax wipe-on (or just regular minwax, thinned with mineral spirits) also looks good.
