namluke
lHi, I have just made a solid out bench 1.5 meters in length about 16 inch width and 40mm thick. Im going to use hairpin legs and i was just wondering if the below screws would be suitable Its a coach screw M8x30mm https://www.toolstation.com/shop/p63750 Many Thanks
Chestnut
Yes it'd be overkill. My main concern would be driving something that large into hardwood. A properly sized pilot hole so you don't snap the screw would be important.

Chestnut
If it were me i'd tap threads in the wood and use a machine bolt. I can't comment on size vs strength i don't know the forces involved with hairpin legs. Also i think the wood species you used didn't come through. Species is going to have an impact. Putting an M8 into Ipe vs cedar might get different recommendations.
Ronn W
I see no reason why the lag bolt (screw) won't work. Pick the proper diameter pilot hole and also drill the top portion the diamter of the unthread shank.
