Popular Post Chet
I saw these on an old episode of Woodsmith Shop and decided to make 4 to use when breaking down my stock with the jig saw. They raise up your stock to allow you to cut over the bench instead of having to have you cut hang off the edge and needing to hold the off cut with one hand to keep it from breaking away and splintering. For storage I put an eye screw in he end of each to hang from hooks over head when I done with them.
Mark J
Very clever, and well executed.
Immortan D
Nice! Out of curiosity, why not just use your SCMS instead?
Chet
If the stock is wonky in any way you can get the blade binding or kickback. I use the jig saw to break things down before any other milling has been done.
SawDustB
I can't believe I never thought of tall bench hooks. That's a great idea. I've got one that's 3/4" for use with a hand saw (that I pair with an extra piece of ply), so I often end up just my hand saw with that for initially breaking down a board. My miter saw usually lives in the corner on the floor unless I have a lot of boards to break down, in which case I'll set up its folding stand. Chet
I am just not a fan of breaking down rough stock on the SCMS, a lot can go wrong with a little twist or bow. I made these high enough so that if I have a longer blade in the jig saw for 8/4 stuff I still won't hit the bench top.
