Embarrassed Newbie
Can anyone help identify this type of wood? My daughter would like me to make this, with the color variations. I'm not sure where to get the wood with included sapwood. Any suggestions? Thanks. Embarrassed Newby (she loves that name)
phinds
Looks like it could be Eastern red cedar but you need to post better pics. These are too far away and the last one is not focused. It also seems possible that this is something with stain or dye on it. Can you tell?
Embarrassed Newbie
Unfortunately, she just copied these from something she saw online. I don't have the original pics.
drzaius
I agree with Easter red cedar. The wood is quite pinkish when freshly cut, but will gradually turn a medium brown with age.
wtnhighlander
I agree that cedar is most likely, but walnut with included sap looks very, very similar in a photograph.
pkinneb
Another one for red cedar
RichardA
Yup, Eastern cedar. Recently built two caskets out of it and they looked exactly that way.
