Popular Post Tom King
This is one of the few forums I participate on that allows links to other forums. At least, I hope I'm right about that. Anyway, for those of you that mill lumber, this is a thread off the Forestryforum that I think you will find interesting, if not valuable. Even if you don't run a bandmill, follow it through to the part about chasing the fleck in quartersawn logs. https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?topic=93851.0
wtnhighlander
That was a really clear explanation of technique. And boy! Some really pretty lumber! Thanks for sharing.
Popular Post phinds
Nice to see someone doing true quartersawn on all pieces. Almost all millers do quarterCUTTING and then call it quartersawn, which it is not after the first plank through the middle. Quartersawing produces rift cut very quickly, not quartersawn cut. The terminology of course adds to the confusion.

If he was close to me I'd tell him to shut up and take my money. Having bought QS lumber from yard i always seem to get mostly rift sawn material like you mentioned with only 5BF of good QS grain per 50 BF. Thanks Tom for sharing that is a good post. wtnhighlander
@Spanky needs to get in on that business. I'd make the drive for some of that.
