I don't have anywhere to put it or would be very tempted. It's one of the nicest looking big jointers I've found. Especially if it really does have a Tersa head which I doubt. Go get this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/145460627875?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D777008%26algo%3DPERSONAL.TOPIC%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D257900%26meid%3D9e800cb612334bfdb5488daf750925c0%26pid%3D101770%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26itm%3D145460627875%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D4375194%26algv%3DRecentlyViewedItemsV2&_trksid=p4375194.c101770.m146925&_trkparms=parentrq%3A696bce1818c0ac6953fb3002ffff8f9c|pageci%3A16b2be1e-9aa8-11ee-9af4-ee92528b46a9|iid%3A1|vlpname%3Avlp_homepage Holy smokes! That's a little beyond my pay grade and my shop space. It would be pretty incredible to own something like that though! Quote
Popular Post Ron Swanson Jr. Posted January 6, 2024 Author Popular Post Report Posted January 6, 2024 Well... It's here! I'm still marveling at how much BIGGER this thing is than my 6" was! Loading went ok, except a Woodcraft employee slipped and brained me in the forehead with a 2x4. Lol. Just got it off my truck and on the base with the help of a neighbor. There's a small scratch on the outfeed table that irks me but i don't think it will make a difference in the long run. 9 Quote
Popular Post Chet Posted January 6, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted January 6, 2024 Nice. You will enjoy having all that extra surface to work with. Make sure there aren't any burrs sticking up from the scratch that will mar you freshly jointed surface. Maybe he was just trying to knock some sense into you... free of charge of course. 3 Quote

Popular Post Ron Swanson Jr. Posted January 6, 2024 Author Popular Post Report Posted January 6, 2024 My initial thoughts are mixed. The tables are flat and coplanar to my measurement. They're really big and I'm expecting they will get the job done. So from that aspect I'm thrilled. The fit and finish is not great at all. The paint job sucks and as mentioned the outfeed had a scratch on it. I know that on a few weeks, with use, it will have scratches and dings all over it, but still. Paid a pretty penny and don't like seeing things like this on a new machine. The fence.. WILL take some getting used to. I was concerned at first because it had a lot of slop and wobble to it. But i went thru and tightened everything up and that seems to have shored everything up. 4 Quote

When I got my Powermatic Jointer, same company as Jet, it had some chips in the paint. I called and spoke to customer service letting them know that I was lest then happy with the paint situation because of the potential for rust in the cast iron. They sent me a rattle can of their paint to do some touch up. 4 Quote
Ron Swanson Jr. Posted January 7, 2024 Author Report Posted January 7, 2024 Thanks @Chet, great idea! I will give them a call. There's 2 spots where it's needed. Aside from that everything else looks good. Quote
Ron Swanson Jr. Posted January 7, 2024 Author Report Posted January 7, 2024 I got a plug wired up today, got most everything tight and straight and adjusted. Ran some very curly maple and walnut through it and I'm thrilled with the result. Dead flat and smooth as glass. Shavings are very whispy. I'll try some hard maple and QSWO to see how it does with harder stuff but I'm expecting it to be fine. Very pleased, overall. There's a big cold front moving in this week so i probably won't spend much time out here for a while - but I'm feeling great about the machine as a whole. Can't wait to get started using it. 2 Quote
wtnhighlander Posted January 7, 2024 Report Posted January 7, 2024 Be sure to protect those shiny new tables from condensation as the front rolls through! 2 Quote
Popular Post Chestnut Posted January 9, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted January 9, 2024 I hear ya on the fit and finish. MY powermatic tools all had a couple little scuffs like you saw. A year of running wood over them has erased them. 2 1 Quote
