pkinneb Posted April 20, 2024 Report Posted April 20, 2024 I have a Delta GR450 8" bench grinder with tool less retainer nuts and I want to switch to a regular nut but have been unable to find anything locally or even online that will work. Using the model number etc I purchased these from ereplacemnets and after 6 weeks and $18 they don't fit. The reason I need to change is the tool less version does not work with my wheel balancers. Any ideas out there? Thanks in advance for your help! Quote
Mark J Posted April 20, 2024 Report Posted April 20, 2024 I would have thought that a hardware store item. Is the shaft an unusual thread? By the way, are the threads left hand? 2 Quote
Von Posted April 20, 2024 Report Posted April 20, 2024 +1 to Mark's question. I'm in the habit now when I'm in a similar situation, my first step is to size (e.g.) whatever it is I'm trying to replace to figure out if metric/standard, some unusual threading, etc. That often gives me a clue what I'm in for. 1 Quote
wtnhighlander Posted April 20, 2024 Report Posted April 20, 2024 Try a 5/8" arbor nut from an angle grinder, maybe? My guess is that one of the shafts is lefty, though. You want the inertia of the wheel to always tighten the nut, so the opposing ends of the shat probably thread opposite directions. 1 1 Quote
Popular Post Tom King Posted April 21, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted April 21, 2024 Should be LH on one end and RH on the other. 5/8 lawnmower blade nuts should fit it. They come both ways and have a built in "washer" on one side. One example of many: https://www.amazon.com/CUB-CADET-712-05134-Flange-Ultima/dp/B0198RQ70M/ref=sr_1_8?crid=1IQQ66SURLHPB&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.3vbW7ImJ1R4U4pIajklqQ1_Hf6rQfPgoXJ62nyKihhQuM6k2Au3FE3HdRsgWucyOMSKnc5l1lcghmLr9j7FnC3BBy6_XDPsbf8--W_tnYyHKf9cmAHzyGqgcPktWjoaymSzmTxA97GpYHjg-EyvZeh29w-hk9-K6WRDOopw6cavyTdE6HicXNaQDS7PDJDsDCfbSDyU-i0srlGs_M3vUj21IWeqhpopcKzG1mI08rlM.PSqgoh5OB3lBFurLFMPlV8yeQve36eLpxQX2Urseclg&dib_tag=se&keywords=5%2F8+lawnmower+blade+nut&qid=1713660155&sprefix=5%2F8+lawnmower+blade+nut%2Caps%2C106&sr=8-8 3 1 Quote
William R Posted April 21, 2024 Report Posted April 21, 2024 Go to fasteners if you have on in your area. Take the nut with you. If they don’t have one they’ll be able to tell you where to get one. Or a hardware tool repair place 1 Quote
