watash
I have a chance to buy a air filter. i was told they were around $350. I was searching web just browsing and ran across a home made one. It was a box fan lying down pointed to ceiling with a filter rack attached to back side of fan. Im thinking 30 bucks for a fan , a little wood to build a frame and bam same thing. Has anybody else got ideas on that?
Beechwood Chip
A home made air cleaner is on my list of shop projects. I found an inexpensive attic fan that I'm going to use.[ edit: by "attic fan" I meant a whole house fan. I forget the CFM claim, but it was impressive. ] Edited August 17, 2015 by Beechwood Chip
mat60
I have a home made one using a furnace fan in a plywood box with 3 filters...All I can afford at the time..
estesbubba
If you're making homemade I don't think a box fan will move much air. A squirrel cage fan ( old furnace fan) in a box would be better. This is pretty much what you get when you buy an air filtration unit. Brendon_t
This last weekend, HD had on sale a high velocity fan. I bought one for the shop to replace the ac unit that was stolen. That thing is darn impressive. I think I gave $20 for it. That thing would certainly move the air you need

Mine isn't that big - about one foot diameter. I think it was 1600 CFM.
