wtnhighlander
30-1 is probably the day & month it was made. No year included, because it was zero?
wdwerker
At first glance of your pictures the name " Millers Falls " popped into my head. Could be way off base but I have seen some odd early drill presses.

Honestly, tht contraptuon looks totally home-brew, to me The on/off switch definitely is Jerry rigged it does work and it does drill holes just super odd I've seen some really old drill presses but this one is very unique

Llama
It looks like a $7 paperweight. I wouldn't trust my parts near it.
Coop
Pay the 7 and leave it there or list it for parts on eBay.
minorhero
You can post the picture on Old Wood Working Machines (owwm.org) and folks there will likely know what it is. It has a pulley for an old line drive, which makes me think you are definitely looking at something that has been around for 100+ years. ClassAct
Aw, c'mon, guys, Griff might enjoy doing old-machine rehabs. The coarse hand screw thread angle suggests that it won't be used for precision drilling, but there are plenty of projects that don't require machinist tolerances. For seven bucks, the investigation and research value is cheap entertainment. If it ends up working well, it's an even better bargain. And yeah -- watch out for hair and sleeves when that baby is turned on.

I didn't really want it I was trying to run the price up a little bit couldn't let it go for 5 bucks I thought it was unique and be something fun to clean up I found pictures online that suggests that it's from the 1920's it does work and it does drill holes the body swivels on the shaft and I can't get it stable to where it won't move side to side but I am going to take it apart clean it up and put it on Craigslist for 20-25 bucks I love old tools and working on them 7 bucks can't beat that! For a few hrs of fun cleaning and working on a old machine I still would love to find out who manufactured it!!
