Slick218 Posted June 19, 2013 Report Posted June 19, 2013 Well, I'm not sure if this is the correct forum, but this is the 'design' area so... Does anyone look at furniture/ websites for design ideas? I browse tons of online stores/diy websites for items which are similar to what I want to build. If an idea pops into my head i immediately hop online and check out similar items either fro sale or pieces people have built. I am mostly interested in dimensions. If there is a project or item listed for sale it usually is accompanied by dimensions which I then use as a baseline and begin drawing up my plans in AutoCAD. Do any other members frequent either websites which offer free woodworking plans or maybe an online store with cool furniture? Quote
Dan S Posted June 19, 2013 Report Posted June 19, 2013 I always look through etsy & custom Made when I'm looking for ideas. it can really help getting the juices flowing some times. Quote

Tpt life Posted June 19, 2013 Report Posted June 19, 2013 Netflix, "Cadfael" the monk is using a French joinery bench as an herb preparation table. I do not often go looking, my eye just picks it out in the unlikeliest places. The same is true with furniture design for me. Quote
Slick218 Posted June 21, 2013 Author Report Posted June 21, 2013 Do you guys visit any sites which sell furniture for ideas? Quote
Bob Lang Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 Auction sites, like Sotheby's, Rago and Treadway are also a great source, as are museum sites. Pick a favorite furniture maker, do a Google image search, and you can kill half a day. Bob Lang Quote
jHop Posted July 1, 2013 Report Posted July 1, 2013 Museums. Especially niche museums. (My aunt is a senior curator at one, so I got a behind-the-scenes tour once. I'm still amazed at what they had sitting in storage...) Quote
Tpt life Posted July 8, 2013 Report Posted July 8, 2013 I like the Houzz app photo gallery. I believe it is a design firm's app. There are lots of photos of higher end homes with some rather unique built ins and stand alones. Quote
Gary Gilbert Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 I started to use pinterest. I thought it was a girly thing for shoes and outfits, But found a bunch of artist friends using it for concept ideas.. What I like is you can just save the item to a board you make so then you don't have a ton of bookmarks.. here is the link to workshop ideas one i found.. http://www.pinterest.com/todaysplans/garage-workshop-ideas/ Quote
