chopnhack
Freddie, have you thought about putting a sweep on the bottom of the door? Threshold as well? You're in the trade so you probably know, but for those that don't - they make a huge difference in maintaining the temp/humidity in the shop as well as your home. Eliminates drafts and helps to keep pests at bay. ;-)
Freddie
Yes chop that was the plan from the beginning.
Freddie
I should be wrapping the construction of the first door later today. I had some defects on the exterior skin, so I filled with bondo. It was a little cold so it wasn't dry by the time I left. First step is to sand the bond down, then finish chamfering the exterior decorative frame and secure it. I attached 2 pics of the chamfer profile and how the rails and stiles meet up. This is good for me in two ways. 1: God forbid a joint slipped, it will be barely noticeable due to the nature of the profile. 2: It looks cooler. Llama
Nice effect! A few well placed shadow lines never hurt
Freddie
In a mad scramble today, I got my first door done. Sand and paint are still to come, but at least I can put this one aside and build my other door. I felt so productive today that I was actually able to finish something, and move to another step. sunadmin
Freddie can you pass along that article by Mike Peckovich that referenced about 100 pages back? Doing a search on FW I found a couple articles by him but I sort of remember an in depth article on the doors maybe in the magazine at some point. chopnhack
No doubt ;-) and rightly so. I had that moment this morning when I put the cap piece on a recurve arch (or nearly recurved) lid for a blanket chest. Tomorrow is a lot of sanding... Freddie
I got first coat of primer on the door tonight after work. It needs a generous sanding after to knock down any raised grain, and achieve a smooth coat following. Anyways, I am excited, it's starting to look more and more like a door.
