Freddie
For giggle tonight, in between samples drying, I thought it would be funny to flatten the top on my harbor freight bench. I was amazed at how wavy it was, or was i? Anyways, it's on it's last legs here in my shop so I figured I would let it have it's day. Freddie
Went right in with the no.8, and smoothed the front section out, then went back to samples.
Southwood
Shop looks real good Freddie, I have often thought about picking up a HF bench. Using a coupon and sale it might not be a bad deal.

If you want use it for any traditional workholding practices, you will quickly become irritated.

Freddie
I wonder how long it will stay flat, the top is 3/4" thick and it's all shorts of oak finger jointed together.

Until the next major temp/humidity shift in the shop is my bet.
Freddie
Just picked up 40bf of 10/4 poplar to build the interior frame of the next door. Final thickness will be 2" to accept the 2" foam insulation. Stay tuned as i mill these boards and turn my shop floor into a gerbil cage again! pghmyn
Ha! I'm so glad I'm not the only one who makes that gerbil cage comparison when I mill lumber. That dust collection can not come soon enough.

I made 2 utility benches several years back that started out as 275BF of SYP. I probably turned 50BF into chips, god what a mess it made, even with dust collection. Freddie
Dan, that sounds like up to the waist in chips, must have taken a while to clean, hope you didnt lose ang small tools in the process
Tpt life
I crate the chips, maybe not as much SYP but the chips make excellent kindling.
wdwerker
Why didn't you build both doors at once? Same thickness and probably lots of duplicate part sizes would be easier to do all at once it seems.
Freddie
I have no room to build both at the same time, and i switched frame material for this one as an experiment. The first door has a laminated inner frame. Going solid with drawbored mortise and tenon on this frame.
Freddie
Both doors will still be identical, just a different approach for the interior frame.
