chopnhack
I'm sorry, I had to... LOL The door is looking awesome Freddie! Is it an optical illusion or is the door thicker than 1.5"?
Freddie
Its 3" thick.

Freddie
Sanded the entire door today to a glass smooth surface, and applied my second coat of primer. The wood grain is not pulling through too bad now, mostly not at all. This is a good base now for the top coat of white.

Freddie
Ok, first picture is just something I did this morning so my girlfriend would come home and see it after work. It is a teddy bear I got her a while back, and I set it up in the living room watching tv. Any who, I got the first coat of paint on tn. To answer your question Nick Feola, now with a little gloss in the finish you can see the wood grain and brush strokes in certain light. I don't mind it, I just can't wait for this to all be over so I can start enjoying actual woodworking again.
Freddie
I cant wait til i insulate my shop. Im working on a house by the water, small house, 575 sqft, and i have been running a propane heater to keep te chill out. Between yesterday and today i got the whole ceiling insulated, and now im sweating in here. The difference the insulated ceiling makes is incredible! Holds heat now like a bawss! Freddie
I just couldn't wait, I wanted to see how the door looked in the opening before it got dark out. Still needs one more coat of paint but for now this door is done, I'm moving onto the next one. In my honest opinion, these doors will make the outside of my house look a lot nicer than before. * Don't be confused by the space up top, I am reframing the opening to plumb level and square it. I am closing it by one 2x to have a more substantial trim around the opening without disturbing the siding.

chopnhack
Nice Freddie! And agreed, these doors will look so much better than the standard garage door. The clapboard siding with two more traditional looking doors beats 1 big old door any day. Are you milling your own moldings or getting some pvc brickmold? Freddie
I havent gotten that far yet chop, I guess Ill see what happens with the outside trim.
sunadmin
Going to be all manual or will put openers on them?
Freddie
No motors in the works. Manual for now. The goal now is to use the rear 30" door for normal use and not open the big doors. Less energy loss in the shop. But i i need to open the front, i can open one and have half the opening opened up. Big thing with these doors is r-13 insulated and low e glass.
