Popular Post wdwerker
I know that inset hinges are more work but the surface mounted look really detracts from the nice box. I guess it all comes down to what you promised the client.
Coop
I agree w/ Steve. Leave only the knuckle exposed.

TerryMcK
+1 but it's your box
Llama
Just a quick pic showing the color and one mounting option. I do agree that it would look better if they were positioned on the inside of the box, which may very well be what happens. But, it's not my box, and the decision is the clients.
..Kev
I'm with the rest of the gang Mel on the hinges but, do understand that the client's wishes are what you must ultimately go with.
wouldwurker
Tough to tell from the pic, but it looks like you have a 45 degree chamfer on the back of the lid and box for a 90 degree stop? I added it for decorative purposes. All outside edges except for the miters have the chamfer. The same chamfer is on the inside of the lid as well. wouldwurker
Do the chamfers create a hard 90 degree stop for the lid when they meet? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Llama
Not sure I'll report back after the client decided on final placement of the hinges.
wouldwurker
Cool... Here's an example of what I mean from a coaster box (that came with my office). Always thought that built in stop was a cool feature. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

pghmyn
Pretty perfect piece of prime padauk. Those bevels around the edges give it a whole new dimension. I like it

wouldwurker
Ooh pretty. What's the scoop on the hinges?
Llama
Ooh pretty. What's the scoop on the hinges? As pictured. I do plan on making another one with a slightly different design and woods and I'll explore other options at that time. Thanks for the suggestions! Llama
Like it a lot. Also a nice stash of Walnut below. That walnut is for the beds I am building next! Stay tuned!
Eric.
Beds? Me too! Except I'm only building one. Sucks for you! Brought the lumber home today and I'm planning to start next week. My goal is to finish before Christmas. I'd say the probability of that happening is about as good as me never actually starting this project.

Brought the lumber home today and I'm planning to start next week. My goal is to finish before Christmas. I'd say the probability of that happening is about as good as me never actually starting this project. I have two full size beds I have already started milling material for, and the design has been finalized. Should go fairly quickly. It is another client job, and I do my best to stay on top of those! Thanks, and good luck on yours! I'd like to see progress pics.
Eric.
Maybe I'll do a journal. That could help motivate me to carve out a little time every day and actually make progress. Or it could just end up embarrassing when I never finish it. I'm building a double, too. My little dude has about outgrown his crib.

tim0625
Groviness Mel!! The bevels are nice and the ebony splines are juuuuuust enough but not overpowering.

tim0625
YW and hey....we could use some of your 46 degrees right now. We're still cranking out humidity. We're at 73 this morning but the air is thick. I'm ready for some Fall! Work with the shop doors open, light jacket....yeah baby....
