Quick hello from a green guy

Hi everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself so you have an idea of my background for when I ask questions.

I am a trained machinest who has access to all the manual and CNC machines of any mans desire. I spend all day making precision parts that feed the ever growing aerospace and medical markets. This can be at times stressful and certainly doesn't leave much room for "artistic interpretation". I build custom bicylce frames as a hobby which helps vent some of my creative overflow, however it resembles much of the same kind of work I do for a paycheck.

My wife wanted an alternative to gold or silver for her wedding band so I started looking into wooden rings. I purchased some turning blanks and made a combination Titanium/Blackwood and Titanium/rosewood wedding bands for each of us. I had a blast working with something that doesn't need to be inspected before it went into space. The jury is still out on the rings as it has only been a month or so but I have been bit by the wood working bug.

I look forward to reading about your experiences with all kinds of woods in all kinds of applications.

Welcome!!!!

Please put some pics up of the rings. I just got married a little over a year ago and I'm a gear head so I told my bride make mine simple and cheap. She went titanium and I like it but it's turning dark grey. I saw the kits for doing rings and thought I'd much rather have a wooden ring then metal.

sorry for the low quality pictures. The Rosewood is my wife's ring and the Blackwood is one I made for myself. I'm hoping to remake them and coat/seal the wood before gluing to the Titanium.
