I didn't follow the links, but thought it was just a fancy, regular multi-plane. Thanks! There are quite a few profiles that can be added. Also, certain profiles can be used in conjunction with other profiles and techniques to create pieces that are completely unique. rodger.
That plane is awesome - looking forward to seeing incorporated into one of your projects.
Barron
Makes me wish I had ordered the chopstick making kit.
Llama
Just picked up a few more pieces. Multi-bead profile, rabbet set, rabbet depth, fence set, fence rails and a hone for a profile I don't have yet. I wasn't going to get any more things for this plane for a while, but I was able to pick these up for a fair price from a friend. If anyone is interested in seeing better pics of something, let me know. First to show the size of the HP-6 vs Stanley #45: YAY! Boxes! Beaded! It is noteworthy, that this mahogany has some real bad cross grain. The HP-6 didn't care, just took beautiful shavings and I ended up with this profile. shaneymack
Looks awesome Mel. Do you know if there are any plans in the future for bctw to make a compass plane? Now that I would buy. Llama
I haven't seen anything about that. Would be neat though!
Brendon_t
Do you need to sharpen it by hand with a file or is there a special stone for each profile?
Immortan D
You're building a nice set there, Mel. I see another HP-6 body in your near future...
Llama
Brendon - There are special hones for each profile. These are used with a diamond paste for honing. Another one? lol... OK... I can see that happening sometime in the future.
Brendon_t
Mel, I'm having a tough time visualizing that. When you get it opened, if you happen to snap a picture, if like to see what that looks like. I've always wondered about sharpening the blades on intricate molding planes. Immortan D
My guess: You use the profile on a piece of MDF, then you apply diamond paste to the MDF, finally you use the plane again to hone the blade (this might be COMPLETE BS)
Llama
Brendon: This is the hone for the multi-bead. I don't have that one yet. I need to buy one soon. http://www.bridgecitytools.com/default/tools/planes/mini-multi-plane/hp-6v2-series/hones/hp-6v2-multi-bead-hones.html
Brendon_t
Got it. $50 per profile seems a bit spendy but when you're buying at this level, I suppose it is arbitrary and the second best option is probably not nearly as nice a polish. Llama
Yeah, $50 sounds like a lot... Once you're in, they got ya! Can't fight it man. I am working on making my own profiles, and hones though. And another more secretive project with it. Well, two actually... Should be fun to see if I can pull this off! Llama
Not my intention B. Sorry. I'm not telling more for a couple of reasons. Most importantly, I don't want my ideas to get knocked off... Second, I don't want to deal with any naysayers about my ability to achieve these ideas.
