Brendon_t
Last night I downloaded the pdf manual which was throughly not helpful so lets see if the brain trust has any ideas. On a few occasions, I have locked the fence down on my G0555anv saw for a long rip cut, had low to moderate featherboard pressure installed before the blade. A few feet into the rip, I notice the cut is no longer straight. I kill the motor, back the blade out to find that the fence is 1/4, or 1/2" higher than it was set for. The handle is still securely down and the fence isn't moving but it has creeped up.Initially, I turned the cam lock adjuster in more to hold the fence tighter until it wouldn't lock down and backed off about half a turn. There is a definate clamping of the rail now.Any experience or ideas?
ChrisG-Canada
On my Grizzly bandsaw the rail is also adjustable... Could the rail itself be loose?
Brendon_t
The rail is securely bolted and torqued to the top.
mat60
Does your fence lock on just the front rail ?
Brendon_t
Yes.
mat60
Darn.....I couldn't get a good pic of the back of that saw with your fence..

mat60
Hay Brendon....Like to see what the fence is doing that is creating the problem ..
Brendon_t
I'm unsure If that is a question or statement. I still haven't figured out why it is wandering sometimes.
Brendon_t
Had another cut go wondering on my this evening. Proof I'm not crazy. I can tap it and it holds but pushing with 2 fingers moved it over about 2"
..Kev
Damn! Now I gotta go back out to the shop and see if either of mine do that Just checked - I don't have that issue on the 17" or the 14".. Thank heavens!
Brendon_t
Please do. If this is normal, than I'm officially on the Eric side of the fence, and that's a very scary place to be..
Tpt life
Have you tried to crank that lever further? That sounded like a snap to cam without snugging.
Coop
You could always put a clamp on the rail behind the fence?

..Kev
Neither of my Grizz bandsaws have that issue Brendon. I agree with Shaffer that it looked like your handle bottomed out without snugging to the rail.
Brendon_t
It clamps but obviously not tight enough.
Coop
Brendon, mine has a thin piece of metal that is between the rail and the cam, where the cam is not actually touching the rail, but the thin piece is when you engage the cam, if that makes sense? Brendon_t
Mine has that thin piece also.

ChrisG-Canada
My 17" doesn't slip at all even under a lot of pressure.
Brendon_t
Got it. Thanks for checking you guys saw. At least it's not normal.
jerkface42one
I had a similar issue with the fence on my Jet bandsaw when I first got it. Came to find out that a small plastic shim was missing from the clamping mechanism and when the cam was locked down I had a space between the rail and the fence like yourself. Using a small piece of plastic that I had in the shop and some CA glue, I was able to fix it and it clamps solidly now. It sounds like you're not missing any pieces on yours, but possibly the tolerances during production were just out of whack. A small shim would probably do the trick if you don't feel like going the route of a return/replacement on it.
Phil B
I have that saw/fence and don't have the problem. I looked at the manual but didn't see any obvious adjustment procedures. I'd look at the fence adjustment plate (#200) to see if there is something that could be done there. Also, check to make sure the bearing pads aren't missing (#130). It's also possible that the holes for the cam pivot bolt (ref # 157) are worn or simply drilled wrong. Maybe shimming under the fence adjustment plate would do it. But, call them. My experience with Griz is they will take care of you. I'd like to hear what the fix is.
Popular Post Brendon_t
So here's the fix. My saw fence was spotted without part # 126 above. These two set screws allow the cam lock to put more or less pressure on the fence when engaging. Grizzly overnighted me a set and once set in and adjusted, it locks down.
