jussi
Another vote for the Ridgid. I had that same model. Great saw. Until I got my current saw the herculift was by far the best mobile base I had ever used.
jmaichel
When you start talking $300-$350 for an older model contractor saw, why not just spend the extra $200 for the Ridgid 4512. When I first started out I got burned on a couple table saws from CL. If you don't know what to look for and have never set one up properly and old table saw can be unsafe.
fishywood
Thanks for the advice. This seems to be a great saw and all I've seen searching for it is pretty much unanimous on this saw. The only downside supposed is the arbour issue and it seemed to only affect certain models. Should this be a concern? Should I offer 250? also when I go see it what should I be looking for? thanks gang

It only effected a few early models, and was only a concern when using stacked dado sets, and wasn't an overly difficult fix that might still be covered by Ridgid...subsequent units were fine. There were even several DIY fixes using JB Weld, etc., if you didn't want to deal with service. I'd call to see it, and feel them out about price. Can't hurt to offer $250, but IMO $300 is a fair price, and I wouldn't let the deal fall through over the price if the saw checks out and you like it. Tom King
In the current picks in Greensboro CL, this would be my pick: https://charlotte.craigslist.org/tls/5442651500.html or if it absolutely has to be as cheap as possible, maybe a drive to Raleigh: https://raleigh.craigslist.org/tls/5441981302.html I actually have one of these. It's the third table saw we use when I need one easy to move around. It's made in the same factory as the most popular Grizzly model, but I don't remember the Grizzly model number. The top is cast iron, and you can do good work with it. https://eastnc.craigslist.org/tls/5407463326.html

It ups the budget, but worth it.... gonna need 220v though. All the saw you could ever want. Those other 2 saws are both direct drive screamers with smaller than normal tables. From what I've seen posted there's a ton of better choices in the same price range with induction motors on Cragslist near you. 1 hour ago, weithman5 said: FWIW, i bought my rigid table saw used from the home depot rental shop. they often sell them after a year of service Is that for the portables or the big cast iron saws? fishywood
Hey everyone. Emailed the seller twice no dice and the post is now deleted. It's great to know that rigid is a great saw. Next time one is close hopefully with better results. Thanks for the research and your time for researching the saws in my area. This is a small portable saw with a universal motor (cog belt) 500 https://winchester.craigslist.org/tls/5444124746.html https://winchester.craigslist.org/tls/5444124746.html - That one's a mixed bag...this is an early Jet Super Saw with a nice sliding miter table, solid cast iron, belt drive induction motor....great looking saw. The Microglide fence is ok, but was criticized for being subpar to fences on other $1000 saws of the day. The real concern is that there are known concerns with the blade height mechanism...it has a strange timing belt system that's prone to breaking....I'm not sure if Jet is supporting those issues any more. That's something I'd check the saw closely for, and ask the owner if he's changed that blade height belt. Couldn't hurt to call Jet's tech line either....they may know it as the Jet 708777K (JWSS- 10SPF) Apologies if you've checked into these previously: - https://raleigh.craigslist.org/tls/5426360421.html - Nice saw, good fence, mobile base, solid cast wings. - https://chambersburg.craigslist.org/tls/5396941282.html - This Ridgid is a good saw at a fair price. You might even get it for less. - https://raleigh.craigslist.org/tls/5415912203.html - Similar to the Ridgid - A solid buy at < $300 - https://raleigh.craigslist.org/tls/5391791556.html - Older Cman saw with a great Vega fence at a bargain price. It's basically a great fence with a free saw.... - https://chambersburg.craigslist.org/tls/5387062835.html - This looks like an older Grizzly G1023 3hp industrial cabinet saw, massive cabinet mounted trunnions, full enclosure, solid cast wings, mobile base. 220v...beast. Asking $700, $500-$600 is a solid offer IMO. Here are some better pics of the same model:
fishywood
http://greensboro.craigslist.org/tls/5446927952.html close to home. Offered 300 like the rigid sold at Raleigh. wtnhighlander
Fishy, that Rigid saw looks exactly like mine. I paid $275 for it via CL, and the deal included a small Delta dust collector. The saw is older, no riving knife, but a solid performer. Offered 300 like the rigid sold at Raleigh. Seller declined but hope to hear back https://raleigh.craigslist.org/tls/5426360421.html what is a good price for is for this one ? . That Delta has solid cast wings, a very nice Delta T2 fence ($200 on it's own), a decent mobile base, includes the blade guard and miter gauge, and looks to be decent shape. It also has a clean track record. Those all add value to the equation. $500 is a bit steep, but $400-$425 is very realistic, and if you're tired of looking and love the saw, I might go $450 if they won't bite at $425. Your negotiating points are the lack of a modern riving knife and warranty, and the fact that it's still available. New saws with riving knives and warranties are ~ $550, albeit with steel wings and slightly lesser fence. $300 is right on the mark for that Ridgid IMO. If the Delta doesn't pan out, and/or you really want the saw...another $25-$50 might be in order. Leave at least $30 in your budget for a blade. fishywood
Delta is a possibly. I feel like this might be a good one. Lots of extras. I would like to get it for 400. I know cl is a loaded bag but for 400 or at 500 max is this one at a good price. What other saws should be this price or less to look for? I'm glad I have reached out to the forum. I would have bought the first saw I seen otherwise.

I think an offer of $350-$400 is reasonable. http://charlotte.craigslist.org/tls/5400828301.html . This one is very poorly described, but could be worth a look and an offer. http://charlotte.craigslist.org/tls/5424186628.html . Here's a Ridgid 3650 with no fence for $165. Home Depot has the Delta T2 fence for $183. Could also be worth a look and an offer. http://hickory.craigslist.org/tls/5384705624.html . Another Delta with the T2 fence...says like new, looks a bit rusty. Asking $350...rust cleans up well if it's not a pitted mess, and a is a good bargaining point. http://hickory.craigslist.org/for/5392457074.html
fishywood
https://raleigh.craigslist.org/for/5447714778.html smaller saw with extras. Does the extras justify the price?
Tom King
Everything on that list is a good thing to have, including the blade on the saw. If you can't go the 700 for the delivered Jet cabinet saw, get that one.
fishywood
Thanks Tom. since this delta above with extras and this one https://raleigh.craigslist.org/tls/5426360421.html are both in Raleigh hopefully will get a chance to check both out. Tom King
I wouldn't bother with the one in Chapel Hill if you can get the one in Raleigh with all the extra stuff that you almost certainly will end up using sometime.
minorhero
Here is a relatively newer unisaw for 650. Given it comes with a fence and a miter gauge plus extension table its a good deal. https://raleigh.craigslist.org/tls/5449199802.html Seriously if you can afford this then you should jump on it. This saw is in a whole other class compared to the ones you have been looking at.

Tom King
You need to go buy that Delta in Raleigh with all the extra stuff before it passes you by. The Powermatic is not enough of a "better" saw to matter.
