wtnhighlander
I'm reasonably certain that everything Minwax sells is a pigment stain, not dye. At least, I've never opened a can of their product that wasn't full of particles that needed a vigorous mixing before application.
Pondhockey
Well, I got back to the slab today (for coat hooks above the beam bench.) Ready to stain it (I gave up on matching a dye, will use Van Dyke Brown Glaze - as a stain - to match the bench and interior structure.) I thought about chamfering the edges of the slab to avoid the sharp corners, and "realized" (or incorrectly assumed) that I would expose end grain on the two lateral edges, which would be highlighted from the stain they would soak up. So I decided to cut a wave into each lateral edge and enhance it with the chamfered edge, which would presumably pick up more stain. Just to be sure I tried it out on a test block: It didn't really work. It almost did the opposite! The edges where I sanded a chamfer do not really stand out except against the end grain.

Pondhockey
I've been AWOL, but am glad to see the new activity here! I actually did one more coat rack, which doesn't deserve it's own project or thread, but does deserve thanks to all of you. So here it is, with two views.
mat60
The shape of project looks cool and fun to make. Did you make a template or free hand it?
