thatCharlieDude
Look at what I found at the dollar store. They look like oak. I bought a few for my son to practice spindle turning.

gee-dub
Might be Chinese Rubberwood. A stout hard wood often seen in Wal Mart furniture. Looks like so:

Coop
So they'll bounce back into their original shape after turning them?

AceHoleInOne
Good Idea, eliminates "emptying of yer bowels" in the shorts moment starting with square stock. -Ace-
Marmotjr
Hmph... Didn't actually think that was real thing... Rubber wood. Very interesting, it's a hardwood, and marketed as Malaysian Oak. And since it's harvested from rubber trees that no longer produce latex, it's considered a sustainable and renewable source of hardwoods. Interesting. Curious to know how it turns and works then. It looks similar to the African mahogany I've been dealing with a lot lately, just a lot lighter in shade.

It looks similar to the African mahogany I've been dealing with a lot lately, just a lot lighter in shade. It works very easily. It's a bit soft compared to hard woods. http://www.hobbithouseinc.com/personal/woodpics/rubberwood.htm
