Popular Post pd711
My first time posting a project here. Please be gentle This is a desk I built for my son. The main wood is red oak (his choice) stained with special walnut (also his choice). The breadboard ends are live edge walnut (my choice) and the center of the support leg is a nice piece of crotch figure from the walnut slab. Hope you all like it. The drawers are hickory. I was originally going to make them out of maple but my local supplier had hickory so cheap it was hard to pass up. The accents on the sides of the walnut are hickory. I made some edge pulls out of the walnut and mortised and pegged them in. The pegs are red oak. I know some people won't like the levelers under the leg and cabinet, but his room has very deep carpet and they are not visible once it's on the carpet. Had a few hiccups along the way but thankfully nothing major and nothing that shows. This was my first adventure into anything that could be called "fine furniture". I'm looking forward to the next project, a ladder style shelf unit for his room.

Danny Goldstein
Beautiful desk. I may have done it different, but you'll get that from one person to the next. Each one will have different ideas on how a desk should look. Looking at yours, there are elements I think I'll use in some form or another in future projects. For example, in the last picture where the side looks almost like a backgammon space with the tapered light and dark wood. That in itself, I love. I've been running through inlays in my mind lately. I may use that pattern at some point.
Chestnut
Good work on the desk i like it. I don't think that the floor leverls really take away from it at all. Honestly it adds to it a bit makes it seem a bit more finished or professional. I personally would have raun the drawer front grain the other direction but to each their own. Special walnut is my go to stain if i ever have to use red oak. Some day i'll attempt a dyed red oak, i still have some left.

I went back and forth on that. I settled on vertical grain because the grain runs vertically on the sides and back and it's such a small cabinet.
